BBQ#196 Rejino Barbecue – A Past Top 50, Now Just Okay

Rejino Barbecue made the coveted Texas Monthly Top 50 list back in 2021, which had me excited to finally make the 45-minute drive from Lubbock to check it out. But after the visit, let’s just say… I’m glad I went, and I’ll leave it at that.

Brisket – 6/10

The brisket had some solid smoke, but it missed the mark. It was a bit flat on flavor, lacking that deep, salty richness you expect from Texas brisket. Not bad, but not what you’d hope for from a place with Top 50 roots.

Jalapeño Cheddar Jack Sausage – 8/10

Now this was the highlight. The sausage was packed with flavor, juicy, and had a great balance of spice and richness from the cheese. Easily the best bite on the tray and worth coming for if you’re a sausage fan.

Pork Ribs – 6/10

The ribs were just okay. Decently cooked, but nothing stood out in terms of seasoning or texture. Solid enough, but they didn’t leave much of an impression.

Final Thoughts

It’s always a little tough visiting a spot that’s fallen off the “Top 50” list—it sets certain expectations. Rejino has glimpses of greatness, especially with that sausage, but overall, the experience felt more like a decent stop than a destination BBQ joint. I’m glad I went, but it’s probably not a place I’d make the trip for again.
