BBQ#194 The Shack in McKinney – A BBQ Miss, But the Butcher Shop Was Cool

I had hopes for The Shack in McKinney, especially with the built-in butcher shop—which, spoiler alert, ended up being the highlight of the visit.

Unfortunately, the BBQ itself just didn’t deliver. Overall, this was a 5/10 experience—not the worst, but far from great.

Sausage – Too Salty, No Flavor

The sausage was a letdown. Overly salty and lacking any real seasoning or depth, it felt like a missed opportunity. Texture was fine, but the flavor just wasn’t there.

Brisket – 5/10

The brisket had little to no flavor, which is the last thing you want in Texas BBQ. No smoke, no seasoning, and no wow factor. Just… brisket on a plate.

Ribs – Not Ready

I’d love to tell you how the ribs were, but they weren’t even ready during my visit. A bummer, especially since they might’ve saved the tray.

The Butcher Shop – Surprisingly Good

Honestly, the butcher shop inside the building was more interesting than the meal itself. Nice selection, cool setup, and worth checking out even if you’re not staying to eat.

Final Thoughts

The Shack isn’t the worst BBQ you’ll ever have, but it’s definitely not worth going out of your way for either. With better options in and around McKinney, this one just felt like a swing and a miss—aside from the butcher shop, which might be the real reason to stop in.
