BBQ#197 Iron Star BBQ – A Restaurant with BBQ, Not a BBQ Joint

Stopped by Iron Star BBQ in Oklahoma recently, and it left me feeling… pretty neutral. Overall, I’d call it a 6/10—just average, with one standout item and a few forgettable bites.

Sausage – The Highlight

The sausage was easily the best thing on the tray—juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked with care. It had flavor, texture, and that nice snap when you bite in. If you’re going to try anything here, make it the sausage.

Everything Else – Just Okay

The rest of the meal? Pretty standard. Nothing bad, but nothing that made me want to come back, either. The brisket and ribs lacked the depth and smoke you’d expect from top-tier BBQ, and the sides didn’t do much to elevate the plate.

More Restaurant Than Smokehouse

The vibe here leans more toward a sit-down restaurant that serves BBQ, rather than a true, fire-driven BBQ joint. Clean, polished, nice service—but missing the soul and smoke you get from places that live and breathe the pit.

Final Thoughts

If you’re passing through, it’s worth stopping in for a bite—especially if you’re craving sausage. But don’t plan a trip around it. Iron Star BBQ is fine, but in a world full of great BBQ, “fine” just doesn’t cut it for a detour.
