Evie Mae’s BBQ has long been a name that carries weight in the Texas BBQ world—Top 10 status in years past, and a strong reputation built on quality, consistency, and big flavors. So when I visited their new location, I had high hopes. Maybe too high.
Let me be clear: the food was still good—but not great. And for a place with that kind of pedigree, that’s a bit of a letdown.

Brisket – 7/10
Solid texture, nice smoke ring, and cooked well—but the flavor didn’t pop like it used to. It had all the visual markers of great brisket, but just lacked that signature punch that used to make Evie Mae’s stand out.

Sausage – 6/10
This was on the dry side, and like the brisket, underwhelming in seasoning. It felt like something was missing, especially for a spot that’s supposed to excel across the board.

Pork Ribs – 8/10
Here’s where things picked up. The ribs were tender with a nice bark and a balanced flavor—definitely the best item on the tray. They were the kind of bite that reminded me of why I used to love this place.

Beans – Surprisingly Good
The beans were a bright spot—sweet, smoky, and full of brisket chunks. They actually had more personality than some of the meats. A great side that stood out in a way you don’t always expect.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I’d give the experience a 7/10—still good BBQ by most standards, but below expectations for Evie Mae’s. I get it: new locations often mean longer hours, more staff, and a learning curve. But when a place sets the bar that high, even a small dip in quality is noticeable.
I’m rooting for them to find their rhythm again—because when they’re on, they’re among the best. For now, though, I walked away a little full, a little satisfied, but mostly just missing that spark I used to find there.
